First Book

Grumpy Pants, by Claire Messer

Group Song (with Flannel!)

I changed the mouth and eyebrows at each verse to reflect Old MacDonald’s feelings. They loved silly Old MacDonald the best. (Me too!)

Old MacDonald felt so glad

HA-HA-HA-HA-HA

And when he’s glad he sounds like this:

HA-HA-HA-HA-HA

With a HA-HA here and a HA-HA there

Here a HA, there a HA everywhere a HA-HA

Old MacDonald felt so glad.

HA-HA-HA-HA-HA

Repeat this, substituting the following emotions and sounds:

Sad = Boo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo!

Grumpy = NO NO NO NO NO

Silly = Nah-nah-nah-nah-nah

Second Book:

If You’re Happy and You Know It, by Jane Cabera

Scarf Activities:

Popcorn Song

Popcorn Kernels, popcorn kernels

In the pot, in the pot

Shake them shake them shake them

Shake them shake them shake them

’til they POP

Pop Goes the Weasel, by Caspar Babypants

(We always toss our scarves when he sings “Pop goes the weasel!”)

Third Book

Grumpy Monkey by Suzanne Lang, Illustrated by Max Lang

Dancing

Shaking Everywhere by Jim Gill

Closing Song

See you later, alligator

Too-da-loo, kangaroo

Give a kiss, jellyfish

Give a hug, ladybug.

See you soon, racoon.

Out the door, dinosaur

Take care, polar bear

Wave goodbye butterfly.

Other suggested titles:

Happy Days by Sue deGennaro (This was initially going to be my closing book because it’s short and sweet and I was concerned about attention spans.. However, the kids saw Grumpy Monkey on the table and really wanted to read that one, so I went with the crowd!)

Grumpy Bird, by Jeremy Tankard

Why the Face, by Jean Jullian
